NEWS: 2015/16 Fixtures Released

THE SNL will begin on Sunday 6th September as two games kick things off for the new season.

Solway Sharks will host North Ayrshire Wild while last season’s runners-up Edinburgh Capitals will face Moray Typhoons in their league opener.

Champions Kirkcaldy Kestrels begin their defence of the title a week later when they make the trip north to take on the Elgin based side.

But fans will be interested in the first meeting between Kestrels and the Caps, who ended the season as first and second when they lock horns at Murrayfield on Sunday 20th September.

The season begins again with Scottish Autumn Cup ties, which begins on Saturday 22nd August with a re-run of last year’s final as Edinburgh Capitals face Solway Sharks.

There will be three knockout quarter finals and a mini-group containing Kilmarnock Storm, North Ayrshire Wild and Paisley Pirates to determine the final last eight place.

Also drawn were the first and second rounds of the SNL Scottish Cup, with Solway Sharks facing Dundee Tigers and North Ayrshire Wild to play Paisley Pirates at the first hurdle.

Other matches in the opening weeks of the season see Kirkcaldy Kestrels play Whitley Warriors in a pre-season double header.

But Belfast Giants have decided not to submit a team in the SNL, leaving the league with an even number of 10 this season.

An SNL spokesman said: “Looking ahead to the new campaign, there are a number of mouth-watering games in the early part of the season.

“We’ve began again with the Autumn Cup which provided an extra element and a trophy to win for the clubs and the fact last year’s finalists are meeting so early will generate interest.

“As for the league itself, seeing Kirkcaldy Kestrels and Edinburgh Capitals play each other early on will be one to watch and that particular rivalry will still be simmering.

“We hope ice hockey fans the length and breadth of the country will try something different and check out their local teams this season.”
