DOCTOR WHO and Downton Abbey may be back on your screens this weekend, but why watch a fictional drama when the real thing can be found in the SNL.

There are three games taking place this weekend as the regular season gets fully underway as those points begin to count towards vital SNL points.

Starting on Saturday, there’s only one game to whet your appetite and we go to Tayside where Dundee Comets open their league campaign against Moray Typhoons.

The Comets may be looking forward to an Autumn Cup semi final with local rivals, Dundee Tigers, but league points will be their aim on Saturday.

Moray Typhoons on the other hand are on their third game, having suffered losses to last season’s top two sides, Edinburgh Capitals and Kirkcaldy Kestrels.

Can they make it third time lucky over the Comets?

On Sunday, Solway Sharks and Dundee Tigers have had contrasting fortunes in the Autumn Cup so far so they’ll be ready for the bread and butter of a regular season campaign.

Solway lost out on a semi final place to Edinburgh Capitals, while the Tigers overcame Aberdeen Lynx in their last eight clash.

While they may compete on the ice, they’ll have similar objectives for this season, which will be to finish higher and compete for the SNL title.

Mid-table was the sum of their efforts so improvement will be demanded by both teams. But who will take the plaudits in Dumfries?

Then to finish off the weekend, it’s arguably the biggest SNL fixture this season as Edinburgh Capitals host the champions, Kirkcaldy Kestrels at Murrayfield.

Following on from the Caps’ EIHL side taking on Fife Flyers, the meeting between last season’s first and second place teams will be one to look forward to.

Kestrels hold the crown, while the Capitals will want to wrestle it back and this could set the marker for what will be a thrilling campaign ahead.

Both sides have claimed league points from Moray Typhoons in their only SNL outing so far, but something will have to give. Who will blink first?
